Eli had a hat for everything.
1
A hat for ROARING.
2
A hat for rescuing.
3
And a hat for being very, very silly.
4
But Nana’s hat was plain.
“What’s that one for?”
“Remembering God,” said Nana.
6
“Will I see God?” asked Eli.
7
“God is beyond every picture we can make.”
8
“Then what do I do?”
9
“Whatever you feel, you can offer it to God.”
10
“Even my grumpy?”
“Even your grumpy.”
Eli put on the hat.
“Here I am, God.”
CRASH! His tower fell.
“God, this grumpy is for You.”
Still grumpy.
Still with You, God.
The dog sneezed. ACHOO!
“God, this giggle is for You!”
Thunder boomed.
“God, this scared is for You.”
Rain spoiled the picnic.
“God, these tears are for You.”
Then… WHOOSH!
Away went the hat!
“Oh no!” cried Eli.
“How will I remember now?”
“You can turn toward God with your hat off, too.”
20
“God, even this worried feeling is for You.”
21
“There it is!”
The dog was wearing it.
Eli laughed.
“This laugh is for You, too, God.”
Hat on. Hat off.
“Here I am, God.”
