Because consciousness is easily captured by impulses, people, fear, pleasure, and identity.

Catch them. Do not identify with them. Offer them.
43How should we deal with overwhelming emotions?
Contain their energy without immediately obeying or suppressing them, then direct them toward God.
44Should we suppress desire?
No. Conscious desire can become material for offering.
45Should we seek inner peace?
Peace may come, but peace is not the ultimate goal. Godward direction is.
46Is happiness the purpose of life?
No. Happiness is an experience, not the destination.
47Is suffering spiritually superior to happiness?
No. Both suffering and happiness can be offered.
